MONUMENTAL: Kevin O'Callaghan's book

Just got a call from one of my buddies from college today saying, hey, congrats, I just saw that work you have in Kevin's book. I had no idea. Kevin O'Callaghan is my mentor (not my father) The first day of his class he was calling roll and said John... wait a second, John O'Callaghan, I responded with yep, my name is John O'Callaghan and I have my fathers last name, but I never met him(not true, but oddly enough my fathers name is Kevin, real weird) He taught me almost everything I know from design to work ethic to what's really important when trying to reach a goal. One of my favorite quotes from him is "It's not about crushing f****ing berries to make paint" or "what the hell else do you have better to do right now, go surfing, get back in the shop and get to work" He's one of the best people I have had the pleasure of working with. I took his now legendary 3D Design course while I was attending SVA. While in the class you have the opportunity to get involved with all of his crazy... I mean crazy projects. This is the first time he's ever put a book out and was it worth the wait. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest whatsoever in creativity as a whole.
Here's some of the pieces I have in the book.

New York Surf Film Festival board painting

This past weekend was the 3rd annual New York Surf Film Festival. It out-did itself once again. Each film I saw was a different kind of good. The one movie that stood out for me was Stoked and Broke, I think everyone needs to go on a no money ricshaw surf trip at one point in their life after seeing that.
In colaboration with Haze Surfboards I painted a board for the raffle. All of the money from the raffle was given away to foreign surf based charities. Here's some photos, enjoy!

New found beachwood paintings

I found a bunch of wood down at Encuentro the other day. It looks to be from a busted up little rowboat. Here's what I came up with!

Road Rash Documentary

Late friday afternoon a friend and I were driving his dirtbike to the local chicken shack in Cabarete. While going around 45mph our front tire blew out. We lost control and skidded out, luckily not hitting anything but the rough pavement. We sustained no broken bones but we did we some pretty bad road rash.
I've always been interested in the healing process of the human body, (especially after I broke my back!) so I saw this as a perfect opportunity for an injury recovery documentary.

... don't worry mom, I'm okay!
